![]() Frost spells are tiny icicles that for some reason look more blue and gray than white (which isn’t how ice works, lol, water turns a stark, translusent white when it crystalizes). I am well aware that there was a backlash over how flashy and over-the-top D3 spells looked but there is a big difference between that kaleidoscopic cluster**** that looked like a unicorn vomited rainbows all over the screen and this overly simplistic style that has you scratching your head and going “was that it?”Īll the shock spells are a variation on the theme of a tiny electrical spark roaming around (compare that to the enormous bolt that shot out of you when you used Lightning or Chain Lightning in D2). There is a single tweet by a developer back from March that suggests spell visuals improve as you level them up and get legendaries that affect them but it’s very light on details and so far I see no difference even at numbers far higher than the +5 cap.Īll three elements look incredibly flimsy, have zero physicality when interacting with the environment, and their lackluster VFX belies a development process that took well over a decade. ![]() I didn’t play in the Beta so I don’t know if spells looked different at some point during development but what they advertised is decidedly not what I am seeing in the live game (I am specifically thinking about Incinerate and the level of detail they showed on the flames vs what I see now).
